Learning in the open is not a comfortable feeling. Everything I've ever had or achieved that has been worth while has come with some form of temporary discomfort. When I first started this course I had no idea that I would be observed while teaching. I also had no idea what a blog was. I honestly cried when I realized what I would be doing in this course. That isn't pretty - but it is the truth.
As I dove into this course I discovered that I really enjoyed learning in the open. It was a relief to see other's lesson plans and be able to learn from what they were doing. It was helpful to read about different perspectives on topics. I feel like a stronger educator after taking this course.
I think the best part of this course was learning that we are all more alike than different. Once we can get past discomfort there is so much more room for learning and growing. This course made me think about my students in my classroom and how even they are probably uncomfortable sharing their ideas sometimes in an open setting. I would be willing to bet that the strongest learning for my students comes from collaboration with their peers and teachers.
I really have enjoyed working with my teacher, FPF, admin, co-workers and students in this course. I feel I have gained a lot from open communication, research and discussions. I still feel a little awkward blogging - but I really enjoy reading other peoples blogs! I will be using blogs to inform my teaching instruction going forward!
Hi Jordyn,
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your posts this term, they were very insightful and informative. I just want to say, I totally agree with the initial discomfort that you experienced, I had the same exact reaction! However, I also agree that once I actually dove into the course I felt that learning in the open was actually extremely beneficial. I do also agree that the blogging is still a little awkward for me to do, but I could see myself using other forms of social media for the same purpose.
Overall really nice job this term,
Morgan
Hi Jordyn,
ReplyDeleteThank you for allowing us to read all your blog posts this term. I completely agree with you the discomfort something like this brings! Sometimes I wonder how I am a teacher because I am never comfortable talking in crowds or what in the open! I think this class has really allowed me to open up and build more confidence in saying what I want to say. As a teacher I have gotten some really helpful information from other teacher blogs, I can only hope one day someone will get the information they need from mine. I am going to try and keep my blog up to date and get it more out in the open.
Thank you again for all the responses and feedback this term. I wish you the best!
Lauren
